    Baghdad today - Baghdad
An informed source in the Kurdistan Regional Government revealed, today, Monday (July 1, 2024), the financial amounts allocated to military retirees in the region.
The source said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The allocations for retired officers and members amount to 75 billion and 630 million dinars."
He added, "The total salaries of retirees in the region, including civilians, military personnel, martyrs, and Anfal fighters, amount to 450 billion and 177 million dinars."
On Sunday (June 23, 2024), a government source revealed the number of officers in the ranks of the security services in the Kurdistan region, including the Peshmerga and Asayish, and the amounts of money allocated to them.
The source said in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "the number of officers in the region is 13,334 people, while the financial allocations to the Peshmerga forces from the Democratic Party and the National Union amount to 133 billion and 61 million dinars."
He added, "The amounts allocated to the Ministry of Interior in the region are 178 billion and 489 million dinars, while the Regional Security Council's allocations from the Asayish and Intelligence amount to 62 billion dinars and 997 million dinars."
On Saturday (June 22, 2024), an informed government source revealed the number of Peshmerga and Interior Ministry members in the Kurdistan region.
The source said in an interview with Baghdad Today that "the number of Peshmerga forces is 114,749 people," indicating that "the number of the regional security council (Asayish) is 8,682 people, while the Asayish forces affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union are 33,832 people."
He added, "The number of members of the Ministry of Interior in the Kurdistan Regional Government, from the local police and other formations, is 149,748 individuals."
On June 8, 2024, former Kurdish MP Ghaleb Muhammad revealed the sums of money allocated to the salaries of the security forces and the Peshmerga in the Kurdistan region, noting that they are equivalent to 51% of the salaries of the region’s employees in general.
Muhammad said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the delay in disbursing the salaries of the security forces is borne by the Kurdistan Regional Government because it did not send the lists and data of those agencies to the federal government.”
He added, "What is allocated to the security forces and the Peshmerga is equivalent to 51% of the salaries allocated to the Kurdistan region, as approximately 480 billion dinars are allocated monthly to the salaries of the security forces."
On June 8, 2024, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Qubad Talabani, announced that an agreement had been reached with Baghdad, and that lists of the names of the Peshmerga would be sent soon for the purpose of disbursing their salaries, and that an agreement had been reached to form a joint committee from the Kurdistan and Federal Financial Supervision Bureau to audit the lists of employee names.
On the other hand, questions are being raised about whether the money that the Peshmerga receives from the American side according to an old agreement will continue or be cut off with Baghdad taking over the salaries of the Peshmerga.
There has been an agreement since 2016 and was renewed in 2022 and is expected to continue until 2026 between Washington and Kurdistan to send $20 million per month in assistance for Peshmerga salaries, equivalent to more than 26 billion dinars per month.
This amount is equivalent to approximately 5% of the total salaries of the Peshmerga, amounting to 480 billion dinars per month, while it remains unknown whether Baghdad will send the full salaries or only complete the shortfall and deduct the equivalent of 26 billion dinars that the Peshmerga receive from Washington, especially with the Kurdistan government’s announcement. US funding will continue until 2026.
