[size=45]The Ministry of Interior called on citizens to quickly register their light weapons and sell their medium weapons, indicating that the “specified deadline” will end at the end of this year and violators who have not registered or sold their firearms will be arrested, noting that the penalty for possession of a weapon is up to life imprisonment.[/size]
[size=45]The spokesman for the Permanent National Committee for Regulating Weapons and Restricting Them to the State, Brigadier General Ziad Al-Qaisi, said, “The law allows the possession of one light weapon for every Iraqi citizen on the residence card,” indicating that “the light weapons included are the rifle, the hunting rifle, and the pistol,” noting that “more than 3,000 light weapons have been registered.”[/size]
[size=45]He added that “the citizen can access the electronic portal of Ur to open the registration form for light weapons,” indicating that “there are 697 offices that have been opened in Iraqi police stations, except for the Kurdistan region,” adding that “these offices are specialized in registering citizens’ weapons, and when the citizen enters his information in the electronic form, the detachment near his home will go and obtain the weapon from him and give him a registration card.”[/size]
[size=45]He continued, “Last May witnessed work on purchasing medium-sized weapons for citizens (RPK and PKC) and we set the official price from 3 million to 5 million and 900 thousand,” noting that “the police detachments, if they find (weapons), whether light or medium, in citizens’ homes after the deadline of 12/31/2024, will arrest the owners of those weapons,” indicating that “the penalties awaiting them may sometimes reach life imprisonment,” calling on citizens to “quickly register and sell their weapons through the electronic window.”[/size]

Al-Sudani had previously pledged, as part of his government program, to withdraw them and end the phenomenon of loose weapons outside the official and legitimate institutions of the state, a challenge that has raised political doubts about his ability to fulfill.[/size]
