A member of the parliamentary legal committee stressed the need for political consensus for the general amnesty law to be approved, noting that the election of a new speaker of the House of Representatives will help activate the political agreement and focus efforts on approving the law.
MP Adnan Al-Jahishi said that political differences have suspended many laws in the House of Representatives, most notably the general amnesty, oil and gas laws, and others.
He added that the general amnesty law is one of the important laws in the House of Representatives, and requires political consensus to be approved in the next stage, explaining that the draft law was sent by the government to Parliament and is currently with the Parliamentary Legal Committee.
Al-Jahishi stressed that, after electing a new Speaker of the House of Representatives, we will work to activate the political agreement paper, on the basis of which the current government was formed, and we will focus on passing the general amnesty law in the House.
