    Information/Report..
The Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline project has returned to the forefront again, renewing the debate over its economic feasibility and political motives. While energy experts believe that the economic feasibility of the project is weak compared to its high cost in contrast to the neglect of better export lines, politically, many Iraqi politicians agreed that the project is not free of regional alignments and that it is an economic phenomenon and its essence is submission to the normalizing countries and the Zionist entity.

Over the years, estimates of the project’s cost have varied, with the figure initially put at $18 billion, before the Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced in another statement in 2022 that the estimated cost of the pipeline was set at $8.5 billion, with an export capacity of up to 3 million barrels of oil per day.

According to previous statements by experts, the project is of great benefit to Jordan, as it will contribute to securing oil for it throughout the year, in addition to the fact that its passage through Jordanian territory will generate income for Jordan through transit fees and land rental fees. It will also provide new job opportunities, in addition to obtaining quantities of oil at preferential prices and at a lower cost.
The actual beginning of the project was this year (1983), when the Iraqi and Jordanian sides agreed to extend a pipeline from Basra in southern Iraq to the port of Aqaba on the Red Sea, passing through Jordanian territory. The two sides demanded guarantees from the United States so that Israel would not target the pipeline.
Iraq announced that it is considering reconsidering the economic feasibility study of the project in its entirety, so that the line will be extended to Egypt instead of ending in Aqaba, at a cost of $18 billion.
Economic expert, Nabil Jabbar Al-Ali, revealed that the total financial value of establishing the Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline project will cost the Iraqi treasury more than 28 billion dollars.

Al-Ali said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, "The Basra pipeline project, which links the Rumaila fields to the Jordanian port of Aqaba, will cost the Iraqi state treasury more than 28 billion dollars, according to what was announced."
He added, "The project is 1,665 km long, and includes one or two pipelines and pumping stations," noting that "the real cost of the Basra-Aqaba pipeline project does not exceed 4 billion dollars only."
While the member of the State of Law Coalition, Sheikh Haider Al-Lami, described today, Monday, the economic benefit of the Aqaba pipeline project as a "lie."
Al-Lami said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, "There are huge media campaigns carried out by many parties benefiting from this project to polish its image and implement American agendas to normalize relations with the Zionist entity."
He added that "this project is a political decision that is fraught with many question marks, as it will contribute to increasing the economy of the Zionist entity," noting that "the project will generate gold for the Zionist entity and Jordan, while Iraq will not benefit at all, despite bearing the cost of construction," indicating that "this propaganda carried out by some political forces is weaker than confronting the facts and came to mislead public opinion, which still rejects this project."
For his part, the leader of the Fatah Alliance, MP Moeen Al-Kadhimi, warned the supporters of the American project to extend the oil pipeline from Basra to Aqaba against bargaining because it would put them in the category of treason and wasting the people’s money, pointing out that there is an Iraqi will that will stand in the way of implementing the project.

Al-Kadhimi told Al-Maalouma Agency, "What was proposed in the 2024 budget to finance the Basra-Haditha pipeline, not the Aqaba pipeline, which will finance the central and northern governorates with oil by building refineries to produce secondary derivatives. As for what was proposed as a second phase, we must be careful because it is an American project that we do not allow the government to proceed with through the presence of an Iraqi will that will prevent any party from implementing it."
He added, "Since the first moments of its announcement, the project has faced strong opposition from most political and popular circles inside Iraq."
Al-Kadhimi also shared the warning of political activist Ahmed Fawaz, regarding the repercussions of the Basra-Aqaba pipeline project, which aims to drag Iraq towards normalization with the Zionist entity with American planning.
Fawaz said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, "America is trying to seize Iraqi oil imports in coordination with the Zionist entity," noting that "the notorious pipeline project aims to rescue the Zionist economic situation by supplying Iraqi oil to the Zionist entity via Jordan."
He added, "The Aqaba pipeline costs the state budget huge sums of money, and the only beneficiary of the Jordanian project is the Zionist entity, as Jordan has stipulated that large sums of money be collected from export operations."
He added, "According to specialists, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] will obtain oil and huge sums of money from export operations, while Iraq will obtain a small percentage of the financial resources."
It is noteworthy that the Aqaba pipeline has recently raised public opinion in Iraq in light of the existence of many question marks that remain unanswered, including costs and economic feasibility. End 25m
