Director General of the Communications and Information Technology Company at the Ministry of Communications, Ali Yassin, confirmed that the volume of Internet capacities passing through the country reached more than one gigabyte during the current month.
Yassin said in a televised interview followed by "Al-Eqtisad News" that the volume of activated capacities is more than one gigabyte during the month of June 2024, as the activated capacities were 400 gigabytes last April, indicating that this will give an impression to companies seeking to ensure the protection of their money and investment, which will positively reflect on the economic situation of the country.
For his part, the head of the National Investment Commission, Haider Makiya, stated that the cost of global trade via these marine cables in general amounts to 10 trillion dollars. Iraq is considered a safe passage for the passage of these capacities through Al-Faw and then to neighboring Arab countries and from there to the Mediterranean Sea.
Makiya added that a meeting was held in Dubai last March with the Dubai Communications Authority, and they expressed a strong desire to implement the project because they have contracts to transfer large data from the hub located in the Emirate of Fujairah, passing through Al-Faw and then outside Iraq.
