    Economy News - Baghdad
[rtl] The Ministry of Electricity announced, today, Sunday, the latest details of the Gulf and Saudi connection with Iraq, with the aim of diversifying energy sources and continuing to provide Iraqis with electricity.[/rtl]
[rtl]The spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Musa, said, "Steps are being taken in an escalating manner to complete the electrical connection between Iraq and Saudi Arabia," explaining that "the first phase of the connection will be 1,000 megawatts."[/rtl]
[rtl]He pointed out that "the technical consulting contract was actually signed between the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity and the Saudi Ministry of Energy to proceed with the electrical connection."[/rtl]
[rtl]Regarding the Gulf connection, the spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity confirmed that "the first phase has been completed, with 500 megawatts for Basra Governorate," adding, "The final stages of completing the electrical connection are now being implemented, and it will enter the implementation phase at the end of this year."[/rtl]
[rtl]Musa pointed out that "the electrical connection with the Gulf countries will link the Kuwaiti Al-Wafra station inside Kuwait with the Al-Faw station in Basra Governorate inside Iraqi territory," noting that "the connection with neighboring countries is an important step in diversifying energy sources and strengthening and maintaining the electrical network."[/rtl]
[rtl]Iraq needs 35-40 thousand megawatts to provide electricity 24 hours a day without interruption, according to the deputy head of the parliamentary electricity and energy committee, Hassan Al-Asadi.[/rtl]
[rtl]Iraq has been suffering from a chronic electricity shortage crisis for decades, due to the blockade and successive wars. For many years, residents have been protesting the frequent power outages, especially during the summer, when temperatures sometimes reach 50 degrees Celsius.[/rtl]
