    Baghdad Today - Anbar
Independent politician Muhannad Al-Rawi confirmed, today, Saturday (August 10, 2024), that corruption operations have declined significantly in Anbar Governorate, after the removal of Muhammad Al-Halbousi from the presidency of the Council of Representatives, according to him .
Al-Rawi told Baghdad Today, "Al-Halbousi, in 2018, when he was governor for six months, was running the governorate remotely, and the deputy governor at the time was Ali Farhan, who was running things and was implementing what Al-Halbousi asked of him word for word, and this is what Farhan confirmed in more than one meeting."
He added, "There has been a significant increase in corruption in Anbar since 2018, and most of the directors of the main departments in the province are accused of corruption and are in prison," noting that "operations to strike corruption and the corrupt in Anbar are taking place on a daily basis."
While the narrator said that "there is a great deal of political cover to protect corruption and the corrupt," he added: "After Halbousi left the presidency of parliament, and Mohammed Shia al-Sudani came to head the executive authority, and separated the overlap between the legislative and executive authorities, he began to strike the dens of corruption in Anbar."
The independent politician concluded by saying: “Al-Halbousi may not be the first sponsor of corruption in Anbar, but he may be the one who provides political cover for the corrupt.”
On Tuesday (November 14, 2023), the Federal Court decided to terminate Mohammed al-Halbousi’s membership as Speaker of Parliament, due to the proof of his forgery, after a lawsuit was filed against him by MP Laith al-Dulaimi .
The lawsuit filed by Al-Dulaimi against the dismissed Mohammed Al-Halbousi was on charges of “forgery,” which ended with a decision to terminate Al-Halbousi’s membership in Parliament after the crime was proven .
Private jets and villas  in exchange for loyalty
But the political activist in Anbar, Saif Al-Haftar, apparently has a different opinion, as he confirms that the province leads the Iraqi provinces in corruption and waste of public money, especially in the era of the “domination of the Progress Party” over Anbar.
Al-Haftar said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", Saturday (August 10, 2024), that "the extent of corruption in Anbar Governorate from 2018 until now is not hidden from anyone, according to the numbers and reports of the Integrity Commission and the Financial Supervision Bureau."
He pointed out that "Anbar topped the Iraqi governorates in corruption and waste of public money during the rule of the Progress Party, which unfortunately continued to appoint less efficient and professional directors and relied on their degree of loyalty to the party."
He added, "Corruption was not limited to government officials only, but they worked to involve citizens by facilitating the procedures for obtaining forged medical reports through the complicity of the former director of Anbar Retirement, Anas Al-Alwani, who caused the waste of trillions of dinars for members of this party, which were disbursed to them through retirement IDs for the Martyrs and Wounded Foundation."
He pointed out that "there are other corruption files such as the lands of Al-Wafa district, twinning projects, and 15 percent of contracting, among others, which are unfortunately difficult to count."
He added, "At a time when the province needs more reconstruction and housing because thousands of families are homeless due to the damage to their homes caused by military operations during the liberation, the officials in the ruling party enjoy 'villas' on the banks of the Euphrates in Fallujah and Ramadi."
The political activist renewed his call to the "Integrity Commission to continue investigating the corruption of officials there and also to investigate the sources of the inflation of the money of representatives and officials in Anbar and their children, as some of them have come to own private planes."
    The glow of power
As for political analyst Adnan Mohammed, he identified the most important mistakes made by Mohammed al-Halbousi, which were behind the quick end of his political project.
Muhammad spoke to Baghdad Today on Saturday (August 10, 2024), saying: “There is no disagreement that Halbousi was a difficult number in the Iraqi political equation, especially within the Sunni component during his presidency of the House of Representatives through a parliamentary bloc and understandings with Shiite and Kurdish forces, but he misjudged the situation and went into conflict with a representative who removed him from his bloc to be the reason that made him lose everything, including the presidency .”
He added, "Halbousi's monopoly of opinion and support for some areas at the expense of others, to the point that some governorates did not receive their dues in positions and were closer to Anbar than the rest of the governorates, and all of these are indicators and mistakes that are taken against Halbousi," noting that "his political project has lost its momentum and the splits that occur from time to time are evidence that we are facing an alliance that is disintegrating day after day."
Mohammed pointed out that "what brought together Progress is not an idea or a program, but rather the glow of power - referring to the presidency of the House of Representatives," stressing that "the provincial council elections showed a decline in Progress's ability to influence, and it will increase in any upcoming election cycle because Halbousi's return to candidacy is contingent on the decision of the Iraqi judiciary in light of the case that was the reason for his loss of the presidency."
He explained that "the Sunni forces include several poles and deal with Halbousi as if he were a previous stage, and this explains the continuation of determining the compass of the candidate for the position of Speaker of the new House of Representatives."
