Jordan's imports of Iraqi oil have reached 150 thousand barrels since the renewal of the contract between the two sides just 10 days ago.

The general manager of the transport company, Nael Dhayat, said, according to Jordanian media, that "the transport process began on the seventh of this month at a rate of 15 thousand barrels per day, in accordance with the memorandum of understanding between the two countries and with the same contractual terms of the previous memorandum, so that the average quantities transported per month will be 450 thousand barrels."

Dhiabat explained that loading and transporting is done using Jordanian and Iraqi tankers equally, transporting oil quantities directly from Kirkuk, Iraq, to the Jordanian oil refinery site in Zarqa.

Last July, Iraq agreed to extend the memorandum of understanding with Jordan to export crude oil until June 26 of next year, under the same contractual terms. Iraq had agreed with Jordan since 2019 to supply it with 10,000 barrels of crude oil per day, before raising the quantity to 15,000 barrels per day in May 2023, after exports via Turkey stopped, which prompted Iraq to divert Kirkuk oil to Jordan and the refineries.

Jordan imports Iraqi crude from Kirkuk, which is of lower quality than southern crude, based on the monthly Brent crude oil rate minus $16 per barrel, to cover the quality difference and transportation costs, while this quantity constitutes only 10% of Jordan's crude oil needs.
