The political crisis continues.. The selection of the parliament speaker is delayed despite intensive negotiations

Political efforts continue in Iraq to resolve the parliament presidency crisis, as no final agreement has yet been reached between the political forces.
Despite the intensive meetings and ongoing negotiations, the political scene remains tense with ongoing disagreements over who will assume this sensitive position.
This stumbling block comes amid major challenges facing the country, including the security and economic situation, which increases the importance of finding a quick solution to this crisis to ensure the stability of constitutional institutions.
The leader of the Al-Hasm Alliance, Laith Al-Dulaimi, revealed the date for deciding on the election of the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, while ruling out the ability of the House of Representatives to amend its internal regulations in light of the rejection of the Coordination Framework.
Al-Dulaimi said, "The political forces are determined to resolve the issue of electing a new speaker of the House of Representatives after the end of the Arbaeen visit," noting that "giving the representative the freedom to choose is the closest to resolving this issue."
He added, "There is widespread popular anger due to the continued obstruction of the file of electing a new Speaker of the House of Representatives."
He continued, "The political forces must direct their representatives to hold a parliamentary session during which one of the candidates will be chosen."
Al-Dulaimi explained that "the presidency of the House of Representatives will be decided after the end of the Arbaeen visit, while he ruled out amending the internal regulations in light of the Coordination Framework's rejection."
He added that amending Article 12 of the House of Representatives' internal regulations would have negative future effects.
For his part, the leader of the Azm Alliance, Fares Al-Fares, confirmed that the Azm and Sovereignty Alliances still stand by their position of supporting MP Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Al-Fares said, “The decision taken by the Azm and Sovereignty Alliances to support MP Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives is still in place, and there has been no backtracking on the decision so far.”
He added, "The continued stability of the two alliances with Al-Mashhadani's support will facilitate the exit from the crisis of naming a single candidate for the position of Parliament Speaker."
He said, "Supporting Al-Mashhadani is an embarrassment to the Progress Alliance headed by Mohammed Al-Halbousi," suggesting that "a session to elect the Speaker of Parliament will be held after the end of the Arbaeen pilgrimage."
It is noteworthy that “the differences between the Sunni forces have been ongoing for a month regarding determining the identity of a consensus candidate for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, as it is a component entitlement.”
On November 14, 2023, the Federal Supreme Court, “the highest judicial authority in Iraq,” decided to terminate the membership of Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi, following a lawsuit filed against him by MP Laith al-Dulaimi, in which he accused him of forging his (al-Dulaimi’s) resignation from membership in the House of Representatives. As a result, the Federal Court ruled to terminate their membership (al-Halbousi and al-Dulaimi).
On November 21, 2023, the Iraqi Parliament decided to officially terminate the membership of Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi.
Since then and until last June, the House of Representatives held many sessions to elect a new Speaker of the House, but the differences between the Sunni political forces prevented this.
