“Increasing crime and theft rates”... Economic recession hits Anbar, and a local official reveals its causes!

Ayoub Al-Hazeem
The mayor of Ramadi, Ibrahim Al-Awsaj, revealed the reasons for the economic recession in Anbar, pointing to “the high rates of crime and theft in the province.”
Al-Awsaj said, “The reasons for the economic recession in the province are numerous and clear, including the suspension of 27,000 salaries, estimated at 32 billion dinars per month, by the Martyrs Foundation,” adding that “this suspension is very unjust towards Anbar province.”
He added, "Anbar Governorate does not have an absolute budget for regional development projects for the year 2024," noting that "we used to spend about 500 billion dinars annually, all of which is in the market, and contributes to moving and activating it to a very large extent."
He added, "One of the reasons for the economic recession in Anbar is the suspension of strategic projects that previously generated huge amounts of money."
Regarding the repercussions of the economic recession on the Anbar citizen, Al-Awsaj explains that “the recession has caused the emergence of crime and the emergence of social and security problems, due to the instability of the economic situation.”
He explained that "Anbar Governorate recorded theft operations after they had stopped in the past years due to the economic recession and the suspension of salaries for martyrs and the wounded."
Al-Awsaj confirmed that “there is arbitrary use of laws against Anbar Governorate, which has led to the deterioration of its economic situation.”
For his part, economic affairs expert Adel Sabah explained the damage caused by the economic recession in Anbar Governorate, noting that it “leads to a decrease in job opportunities, which increases unemployment rates in the governorate, especially among young people who find it difficult to obtain jobs.”
He added, "With the decline in economic activity, individuals' personal incomes decrease, which affects their ability to meet their basic needs and increases poverty rates."
He explained that “the economic recession makes investors hesitate to invest money in new projects, which reduces opportunities for economic development and increases unemployment.”
According to Sabah, “With the decline in government revenues, due to the recession, it becomes difficult to provide the necessary funding to improve infrastructure and basic services such as education and health.”
The economic expert continued, “The economic recession leads to increased tension and psychological pressure among the population, which negatively affects social relations and societal stability.”
He called for "the necessity of taking effective economic measures to stimulate economic growth in Anbar, improve the investment environment, and support vital economic sectors to overcome the effects of economic recession."
Anbar province has been suffering from a severe economic recession recently, which has greatly affected the daily lives of its residents.
Experts believe that the decline in commercial and investment activities in the governorate is due to the security and economic challenges facing the region, including the decline in government spending and the effects of regional crises.
Activists called for “urgent measures to stimulate the local economy and provide job opportunities, while residents demand concrete solutions to alleviate the severity of the crisis.”
