    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Oil expert Hamza Al-Jawahiri revealed today, Sunday (September 8, 2024), the method of smuggling Iraqi oil and the price at which it is sold.
Al-Jawahiri told Baghdad Today, "The smuggling of Iraqi oil has become a well-known and exposed matter to everyone, and this oil is smuggled through the Kurdistan region, then to Iran, and then to Afghanistan through Iranian traders," indicating that "the smuggled Iraqi oil will not be sold at the global price and its price will be less than $40."
He added, "This will not lead to international sanctions against Iraq because of this smuggling," adding, "But OPEC asked Iraq to reduce production by 250 thousand barrels because of Iraq's inability to control its borders and stop smuggling operations."
He explained that "the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee is aware of all oil and gas contracts with local and foreign oil companies, especially since these contracts are not secret, and they are being followed up by the House of Representatives and other relevant oversight bodies."
It is noteworthy that Representative Dhurgham Al-Maliki considered on Thursday (April 4, 2024) that oil smuggling in the south has been largely controlled, but the smuggling of oil and derivatives through the north remains, while he indicated that the Ministry of Oil has adopted the annual audit and disclosure and expenditures of factories and plants to reach the truth and quantities of smuggling .
Al-Maliki told Baghdad Today, "Smuggling in all its forms is a crime against the national economy and poses a danger because it represents a direct drain on wealth," noting that "Iraqi laws have set penalties for those involved in smuggling ."
He added, "There are many doubts about oil smuggling in northern Iraq, which prompted the Ministry of Oil to adopt a series of standards, including auditing, annual disclosure, and a statement of the expenditures of factories and plants in order to contain any attempts to smuggle oil and its derivatives, but despite that, question marks remain ."
Al-Maliki pointed out that "the file of oil smuggling through the south has decreased significantly, especially with the series of qualitative operations that have brought down large networks involved in it, including officers and traders, who are currently under investigation," noting that "there are a series of achievements made on the ground in the file of combating and containing smuggling, especially oil ."
He pointed out that "the efforts to combat smuggling need more effort and support in order to end it and reveal the identity of those who are trying to manipulate the country's wealth for narrow interests ."
On March 10, the Director General of the Energy Police Directorate, Major General Dhafer Al-Hussaini, announced that “the level of smuggling of oil derivatives has decreased to 98 percent and violations of oil pipelines throughout Iraq have decreased to zero percent .”
Al-Husseini told the official agency that "the energy police arrested more than 59 people accused of smuggling petroleum derivatives during the month of February, and more than 1.2 million liters of smuggled fuel were returned to the state and those concerned were referred to the judicial authorities ."
