The Independent High Electoral Commission in Erbil continues its preparations to hold the sixth session of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections in 2024, and is awaiting the approval of the Board of Commissioners on the final lists of candidates to set a date for the start of the propaganda campaign in the coming days, stressing the continuation of the distribution of voter cards and the media campaign to participate in the election day.
Ahmed Mazen, the media official of the Erbil Elections Office, told Al-Sabah: "Preparations are ongoing and ongoing to conduct the electoral process for the Kurdistan Regional Parliament scheduled to be held on October 20, and are awaiting the approval of the Board of Commissioners on the final lists of candidates to set a date for the start of the propaganda campaign for the candidates in the coming days," noting that "the committee for selecting polling staff has completed its work and is awaiting approval in order to train them at several levels; station supervisor, team, box and queue monitor, etc." Mazen pointed out that "the office continues to distribute biometric voter cards through the office's 53 registration centers, as well as 85 mobile teams to distribute them," explaining that "the media plan to encourage voters to participate in the electoral process in general and special voting has been ongoing since the beginning of this month, and the campaign includes advertisements in the streets and medians, holding educational courses and workshops, moving light screens, flexes, social media,
and others."
For his part, Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw confirmed, in a press conference, "the completion of preparations for holding the Kurdistan Region elections, based on the instructions issued by the commission," noting "the necessity of adhering to the instructions of the local government regarding propaganda campaigns, stressing that all violations in the propaganda campaigns of voters and parties will be dealt with legally, and that the security committee in the governorate will deal equally with candidates and all parties."
