    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Today, Thursday (October 3, 2024), the representative of the Fatah Alliance, Mukhtar al-Moussawi, confirmed that there is difficulty in resolving the issue of the parliament presidency in light of the serious crisis the region is witnessing at the security level.
Al-Moussawi told Baghdad Today, "All current political forces are completely preoccupied with the dangerous security developments in the region, especially after what happened in Lebanon. This matter has stopped all internal political files and everyone has become preoccupied with the regional and international file, and everyone is working from their place to preserve Iraq's sovereignty and keep it away from wars."
He explained that "it is not possible to resolve a controversial issue in light of these developments and everyone's preoccupation with these situations, especially since the Sunni political forces are still at odds with each other and there has been no progress in this issue throughout the past period, and the dialogues are almost at a standstill at the present time, and therefore it is difficult to resolve the crisis in the near future."
The parliament has failed five times in a row to resolve the issue of the speakership of the House of Representatives, amid a division between the political parties in supporting one of the candidates for the position, namely Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, the candidate of the Progress Party, and Salem Al-Issawi, the candidate of Sovereignty, Determination and Decisiveness, who obtained the majority of votes during the last parliament session. The last session to elect the new speaker of the Iraqi parliament, which was held at the end of last May, witnessed a fistfight. One of the representatives was injured in his head as a result of a quarrel between two representatives, each of whom belongs to a party competing with the other to win the position, in addition to insults and curses between representatives and the acting speaker of parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, which led to the intervention of security forces to break up the quarrel, and most of the representatives and heads of political blocs leaving the parliament hall, and the session being adjourned until further notice.
