    Baghdad Today - Erbil
Kurdish academic Hakim Abdul Karim commented on Friday (October 4, 2024) on the possibility of an armed confrontation between Kurdish parties against the backdrop of the escalation of election propaganda speeches in the Kurdistan Region.
Abdul Karim said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The verbal confrontation between the parties in the Kurdistan elections is an indication of the lack of competition, and this competition has exceeded the legal limits and the limits of decency."
He added, "Armed conflict between the parties is unlikely in light of the presence of several parties that reject the development of the conflict, most notably the United States, represented by its forces present in Iraq, as well as Iran and the Iraqi government."
Abdul Karim pointed out that "any armed movement will lead to instability in the region, and immediately the American forces will move to stop this conflict."
A frenzied campaign of polarization has begun in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq before the start of the propaganda campaigns for the parliamentary elections scheduled to be held on October 20, in a scene charged with escalating rhetoric between the two ruling parties, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, led by Pavel Talabani, and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, led by Massoud Barzani .
Observers classify this escalation as part of an indirect propaganda campaign that is proceeding in two directions: one direction in which the forces controlling the decision-making process exchange blows on the legacy of mistakes and failures through populist discourse, and another direction in which the government appears to be homogeneous in employing the tools of power to attract voters by launching service projects, distributing thousands of residential plots of land, and opening the door to providing thousands of jobs in the public sector .
