Launching the e-shopping service for social protection beneficiaries

The Social Protection Authority announced yesterday, Monday, the launch of the e-shopping service for beneficiaries of the social protection network through the (K-Card) card, indicating that beneficiaries can purchase from branches of the Cooperative Supermarket at competitive and subsidized prices using POS devices.
The head of the authority, Ahmed Al-Moussawi, said in a press statement that “the e-shopping service has been launched for beneficiaries of the social protection network through the (K-Card) card, to give them the opportunity to purchase from various stores,” noting that “the aid amounts will remain on the card for a period of three months, and will not be withdrawn unless no purchase is made during this period.”
Al-Moussawi added that “the authority, in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce - the General Company for Central Markets, also launched sales operations at a discount or at cost price for holders of the “K-Card” card from social protection beneficiaries,” noting that “beneficiaries can purchase from branches of the Cooperative Supermarket at competitive and subsidized prices using POS devices that rely on biometric fingerprints.”
Al-Moussawi explained that "this service will be initially launched in Baghdad Governorate early next month, where 388,276 families will benefit from it. This process is expected to maintain the circulation of an amount exceeding 82 billion dinars per month, as part of the government's efforts to shift to the electronic cash system and reduce reliance on paper money.
Al-Moussawi revealed that the advantages of the new system include "facilitating purchases and limiting them to the grant funds of the beneficiaries to ensure that support is directed to the deserving categories, and that the amounts will remain on the card for 3 months in order to provide the appropriate opportunity for shopping, in addition to supporting the government's policy in promoting the use of electronic cash and reducing reliance on cash transactions."
He pointed out that the branches available for shopping are:
1 - Al-Bayaa / Al-Amel Central Market, 2 - Al-Salihiya Central Market, 3 - Al-Shaab Central Market, 4 - Al-Hurriya / Al-Jawadain Bridge, 5 - Jamila / near Muzaffar Square, 6 - Palestine Street / next to the Iraqi Housing Fund.
Al-Moussawi stressed that “this initiative also comes to enhance the shopping experience for social protection beneficiaries at subsidized prices, and to provide their basic needs easily, while benefiting from the transition to the electronic system.”
