The Prime Minister's Advisor for Women's Affairs and member of the Supreme Council for Women, Shahba Al-Azzawi, confirmed today, Tuesday, the launch of a package of medical and social directives as part of efforts to raise awareness of the dangers of breast cancer and eliminate it, while stressing that there is a top government priority to raise awareness of this disease and the importance of conducting periodic examinations for early detection and treatment.
Al-Azzawi said, "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani is following up on the awareness-raising file that was launched in October, at the behest of the World Health Organization, to raise awareness of breast cancer cases and the need to intensify efforts to urge Iraqi women to realize the seriousness of the disease and conduct periodic examinations regularly, with the aim of early detection of signs of the disease to control it.
" She added, "The Women's Affairs Advisory and the Supreme Council for Women are cooperating with the Ministry of Health and local and international civil society organizations, in order to control the disease."
Al-Azzawi continued, "We launched successive campaigns and programs and gave utmost importance to this file to raise awareness among Iraqi women. We addressed the Ministry of Health to nominate qualified doctors to appear in programs, meetings, advertisements, and educational scenes in newspapers, satellite channels, radio, and social media sites, to inform the women's community in Iraq about the elements of protection against breast cancer and control its beginnings, which ensures complete recovery before it enters stages that are difficult to stop."
Al-Azzawi pointed out that "we are taking advantage of the international month to combat breast cancer to launch a package of medical and social guidelines to consolidate the organic and psychological dimensions on the path to eliminating breast cancer, so that Iraqi women can enjoy health, optimism, and permanent beauty, as mothers, sisters, and wives."
