The Federal Ministry of the Interior revealed a two-pronged plan to address the phenomenon of electronic extortion and raise awareness of the dangers of social communication.
The director of the Rumors Department at the Ministry of Interior, Brigadier General Nibras Muhammad Ali, said that "the crime of electronic extortion is one of the new crimes that has become a concern for the street in general."
Ali added, "The Ministry of Interior has taken it upon itself to address criminal and societal phenomena in general, and to develop effective solutions for the purpose of controlling and eliminating these phenomena."
He pointed out that "the Ministry of Interior is working to address the phenomenon of electronic extortion on two axes: the first is related to education and awareness in coordination with civil society organizations, government agencies and the Ministry of Education, through holding several workshops and visiting schools, especially since the school year is just around the corner."
He pointed out that "the process of education and awareness is done through self-immunization and electronic accounts, not keeping pictures or sending them from one device to another, as well as not accepting friendships and other other matters, in addition to clarifying to families the need for family cohesion and following up on all age groups."
He noted that "the second axis relates to allocating hot phone numbers from the ministry, to report cases of extortion, namely (533), (479) and (131) to facilitate procedures for filing lawsuits against blackmailers, stressing that "there is a strong demand for the reporting process against the blackmail phenomenon."
Ali called on all segments of society who use social networking sites to “intensify the immunity of personal websites, not trust fake and strange accounts, quickly report and go to the Ministry of Interior’s detachments and call hot numbers to block the way for the owners of despicable souls,” stressing, that “the Ministry is determined to eradication of this crime and the establishment of community peace.
