Detailed designs for the development road to begin before the end of this year

The Ministry of Transport is about to complete the initial designs for the development road project, then move on to the detailed designs before the end of this year in preparation for starting the first phase of the project in the middle of next year, while it intends to conclude a contract to design the international expressway (land road) with one of the specialized international companies.
The director of the ministry’s media office, Maitham Al-Safi, told Al-Sabah: The initial designs for the railway line, topographic survey, and soil investigations have been completed, while the percentage of initial designs has exceeded 75 percent. He explained that the development road extends from the Grand Faw Port northward to the border crossing with Turkey in Fishkhabur, passing through (11) governorates.
Al-Safi explained that all facilities, support and assistance were provided to the Italian company implementing the designs in all stages of work according to the terms of the contract and in accordance with the studies and economic feasibility for the purpose of starting the detailed design phase of the project in a way that meets the aspirations of the government and the Ministry of Transport, noting that the Italian company is about to complete the initial designs for the development road, which has identified the locations of passenger and freight stations in all governorates, to then move on to the detailed designs before the end of this year, as it is hoped to start the first phase of the project in the middle of next year.
He added that the expressway will have a total length of (1190) kilometers, as the ministry aims to sign a design contract with one of the specialized companies, and after the completion of the designs or any section of them, the ministry will work on preparing the required tenders in order to start implementing it.
