    Economy News - Follow-up
The Ministry of Industry and Minerals expected that the next three years would witness the results of partnership contracts concluded with the private sector and foreign and local investment companies, while the Ministry of Labor revealed coordination with the World Bank to grant loans to establish projects in industrial cities.
The Director General of the Investment Department at the Ministry of Industry, Eng. Adel Al-Jubouri, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah” followed by “Al-Eqtisad News”, that “the ministry worked to attract foreign capital to establish strategic projects and revive the Iraqi industry.”
Al-Jubouri added that Iraq has many components for the success of the industry, the most important of which are raw materials, expertise, and infrastructure for public companies. He expressed his hope that through these partnerships, imports will be gradually reduced and reliance on the national product will contribute to increasing Iraq’s national income.
Al-Jubouri explained that the ministry has signed many investment partnership contracts, but industrial projects cannot see the light of day within a short period of time, and need at least two or three years for their results to appear on the ground, pointing out that the ministry held a forum a few days ago with the aim of establishing real industrial partnerships with the private sector, by promoting with complete transparency all available opportunities to conclude participation contracts, and introducing the available projects from a technical standpoint.
In a related context, the spokesman for the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Najm Al-Aqabi, said in a statement to “Al-Sabah” that his ministry has called on more than one occasion to activate the project to establish industrial cities, with the aim of involving unemployed youth, and providing raw materials for the purpose of contributing to encouraging local production in light of the continuous increase in job seekers among graduates. He pointed out that the ministry’s data includes more than two million unemployed people, from various educational levels up to holders of higher degrees who were registered during the last three years.
He added that the ministry will undertake the process of granting loans to beneficiaries to establish their industrial and service projects in these cities once they are established, revealing the existence of coordination and cooperation with the World Bank to establish projects for youth, especially in the poorest governorates.
