    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
A security source revealed, today, Sunday (November 24, 2024), a threat facing the Turkish barracks deployed in the Kurdistan Region that was not expected.
The source said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "A small suicide plane, or what is known as a kamikaze, targeted a Turkish forces' position 13 km deep inside Iraqi territory from the direction of the Kurdistan Region yesterday. This is the third incident of its kind during November."
He added that "although most kamikazes are shot down remotely using support weapons, some of them do reach and cause material losses," noting that "this threat was not taken into account and increased the security burdens in securing bases that include airstrips, which increases the cost of protecting them in terms of securing greater technical tools to confront suicide planes."
He pointed out that "the rate of kamikaze attacks is increasing at monthly rates, and there are operations taking place without announcing them, while the Turkish forces are keeping quiet about the total number of their victims due to the ambushes, shelling, and sniping, which have become commonplace in some sectors recently."
Security expert Ahmed Al-Tamimi confirmed on Friday (November 22, 2024) that Turkish forces are suffering from 5 areas of depletion in the Kurdistan Region.
Al-Tamimi said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The Turkish forces that have penetrated 12 axes within the provinces of the Kurdistan Region, especially Dohuk, have reached in some of their military barracks an incursion into the Iraqi depth of up to 140 km," indicating that "they are facing a guerrilla war in 70% of their operations that are not announced to the public, especially the Turkish public, to avoid a state of anxiety with the increasing rates of the arrival of bodies due to the ambushes launched by the cells of the Kurdistan Workers' Party."
He added that "mountain warfare is the most complex of wars and requires elite forces to adapt to it," noting that "Turkey is well aware that the more it penetrates, the more the losses will be doubled, and this is what is happening in light of the presence of 5 regions that have turned into a land of attrition, especially Zab, the Amidi area, and others."
He pointed out that "Ankara has about 80 barracks, including large bases deep inside Iraq, and it will be forced to close half of them within a few years due to the high cost of losses," stressing that "the Kurdish issue in Turkey cannot be resolved with bullets, and Ankara will reach a stage where it believes that peaceful solutions are the solution to stop the bleeding that has been ongoing for decades, as it has turned into a tool to fight it in light of the involvement of several Western countries in stirring up internal problems in order to keep Türkiye weak."
Security sources revealed, on Friday (November 10, 2023), that Turkish forces are expanding their areas of influence and deploying new forces on the border strip with Iraq.
The sources told Baghdad Today that "in light of the preoccupation with the situation in Gaza, the Turkish forces present in the Kurdistan Region have expanded the scope of their influence."
She added that "Turkish forces deployed military bases in new areas of Zakho and Batufa district, and others linked to the Mahmoudiya area near the border strip between Kurdistan and Syria."
She pointed out that "Turkish reconnaissance aircraft are conducting daily reconnaissance operations on the border strip between Iraq and Syria, and there is also the deployment of new military bases and the transfer of ground forces within the bases in the region."
Türkiye has been establishing military bases and operations in northern Iraq for 25 years, and conducting land and air operations against elements of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, which is spread across many areas of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
