Marcus Cannon signed to 5-year contract extension

The New England Patriots’ offensive success this year comes from several key areas of improvement. Among these improvements to the New England Patriots’ offense has been the, overall, pretty solid play of the offensive line. Bill Belichick, Patriots’ head coach, has seen enough to determine that a contract extension with Marcus Cannon was the right move for the team.

According to reports, Marcus Cannon has signed a 5-year $32.5 million contract extension with the New England Patriots. Of the money in the contract for Cannon, $14.5 million is guaranteed.
Marcus Cannon has had a hell of a journey as New England Patriots’ linemen are concerned. Once considered a flop, Cannon has seen his gameplay improve drastically so far this season and has become an asset rather than a liability. The New England Patriots’ tackle has turned around his career this season with improved blocking in both the passing and running game.
Of course, having Cannon healthy after battling injury last year may contribute a decent amount to his vastly increased play. Marcus Cannon, who spent much of last season playing left tackle in place of injured tackle Nate Solder, is a traditional right tackle and being back where he feels most natural may have helped him a great deal.
Dante Scarnecchia can also be attributed to the success of Marcus Cannon. Scarnecchia, who rejoined the Patriots’ coaching staff in 2016, has helped reunify the offensive line of the Patriots and this has helped Marcus Cannon find his place among the big men upfront.
Marcus Cannon may be a bit of a surprise first signing for the New England Patriots given his up-and-down career for the Patriots but he finally seems like he is settling in at the right tackle position. Congratulations Marcus Cannon on the new contract. Here is to hoping you can provide protection for the Patriots’ quarterbacks for years to come.
