[Asharq Al-Awsat] President Fuad Masoum met with the political representative of the Sadrist movement leader Moqtada al-Sadr and discussed the formation of the government.
The meeting came after a meeting this afternoon between President Masoum with the delegation of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, who are visiting Baghdad currently in the framework of the efforts of political forces to form the largest parliamentary bloc, in preparation for the call of the new House of Representatives to convene to carry out its legislative and oversight functions.
A statement by the political body of the Sadrist movement, that Jaafar al-Musawi met with President Fuad Masum at the invitation of him. During the meeting, they discussed several axes, the most important of which are the constitutional timing and the necessity of adhering thereto, the president's invitation to convene the first session of the parliament, and the focus on leaving mistakes of the past in forming the next government.
The meeting dealt with the demands of the legitimate demonstrators and expedited the provision of necessary services, and addressed the problem of the water of Basra and its effects on the lives of citizens and the need to begin to address them immediately.
During the meeting, they stressed the real state program, which is subject to specific timetables to ensure the achievement of its objectives of crossing the national complex, keenness to be Iraqi, maintaining full sovereignty of the country and building balanced external relations to achieve the interests of the people.
And was unable to political entities to reach an agreement leading to the formation of the largest bloc, the first steps to form a new government in the country.
The blocs, "Suron" backed by the leader of the Sadrist movement Moqtada al-Sadr, and the coalition "victory" led by Prime Minister Haider Abadi, and "wisdom" led by Ammar al-Hakim, and "national" led by Vice President Iyad Allawi, announced on Sunday, The formation of what they called the nucleus of the largest bloc in the Iraqi parliament.
Sadr and Abadi represent the first axis of the Shiite blocs winning in the elections that took place in May, while the second axis consists of the alliance, "the conquest," which includes factions of the popular political crowd led by Secretary General of the Badr Organization Hadi Amiri, and a coalition of state law led by Vice President Nuri al-Maliki.
It is noteworthy that both axes are competing for the naming of the largest bloc and the formation of the next federal government through an alliance with the two main parties in the Kurdistan Region, namely the Kurdistan Democratic Party, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, and "National Axis" which includes most of the Sunni winners of the elections.
The powers need 165 seats, out of a total of 329, to form the largest bloc to be entrusted with the formation of the next government.
