The British Ambassador to Iraq John Wilkes, stressed the need for the role of the Kurdistan Region in the formation of the new federal government and participation in decision-making in the country.
A statement issued by the government of the region on Thursday that the Prime Minister of Kurdistan, Nechirvan Barzani, received Wednesday evening, Mr. John Wilkes, the British ambassador in Iraq, and a delegation accompanying him.
The statement added that "during the meeting to discuss the latest developments and talks to form a new Iraqi government."
The statement said that "the delegation stressed the need for the Kurdistan Region to play a role in forming the new government and participate in its decisions, and stressed the need to resolve the problems of Erbil - Baghdad through dialogue, and praised the delegation initiatives of the Prime Minister in this area."
According to the statement, the delegation expressed satisfaction with the holding of the elections of the Parliament of the Kurdistan Region on schedule, hoping that the Kurdistan Region will witness successful elections.
For his part, Barzani pointed to "talks between Iraqi political forces and the Kurdistan region," stressing the "unity of the word and unity of the Kurdish blocs and the strength of the status of the Kurdistan Region in Baghdad."
Barzani stressed the importance of participation and the positive role of the Kurdistan Region in parliament and the Iraqi government to solve the problems of Iraq and the problems of Erbil - Baghdad.
