Maduro to Trump: Trying to steal your oil company will not work

[rtl]Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has described the new US sanctions against Venezuela's state oil company as illegitimate, while US President Donald Trump has said that "theft will not work."[/rtl]

[rtl]"In the coming hours, Venezuela will take all necessary measures to protect its property in the United States after sanctions against the National Oil Company," Maduro said.[/rtl]

[rtl]"The Americans want to steal from us the oil company (Sitgo), the majority owned by Venezuela in America."[/rtl]

[rtl]He disclosed that he had instructed the head of PDSA (State Oil Company of Venezuela) to take action to protect its legal and political property in US and international courts.[/rtl]

[rtl]"We will take all legal, political, operational, technical and commercial measures to protect Venezuela's interests in the United States and in our homeland," he said.[/rtl]

[rtl]He stressed that, "will respond to these sanctions to protect the interests of Venezuela in the coming hours."[/rtl]

[rtl]Then he spoke in English, "Donald Trump, no, this will not work."[/rtl]

[rtl]Earlier, the US Treasury Department announced that the United States had banned all assets and interests of the oil company of the Venezuelan government and placed them under its jurisdiction, as well as prevented them from dealing with them.[/rtl]

[rtl]According to US Treasury Secretary Stephen Menuchin, the United States "maintains" the company for the people of Venezuela and takes action to protect its market.[/rtl]

[rtl]Menuchin said blocking the accounts of the Venezuelan-owned company meant that its revenues would not be transferred to the current president, Nicolas Maduro, but to Guido.[/rtl]

[rtl]The announcement was made by National Security Advisor John Bolton and Treasury Secretary Stephen Menuchin at a press conference at the White House.[/rtl]

[rtl]Bolton said the sanctions included a US $ 7 billion freeze on the company's assets, and the company suffered a $ 11 billion financial loss that it was expected to make from oil revenues next year. Sanctions also prohibit Americans from dealing with the company.[/rtl]
