The Iraqi Council of Representatives intends to address the federal government to clarify the agreement it had signed with Oman on the sale of crude oil from the disputed province of Kirkuk between Arbil and Baghdad to Jordan.
"The North Oil Company, including the oil of Kirkuk, is not for looting," said the head of the Turkmen National Front, Arshad Salhi, on Friday.
He added that "the issuance of a memorandum by the Iraqi government to sell Kirkuk crude oil at Brent crude prices, and low prices to the Jordanian government raises more than a question."
Salhi pointed out that "the government will be addressed through the oil and energy parliamentary committee to know the details," saying that "the proceeds of sales of Kirkuk oil should be the return to the people of the province before the other."
And raised the oil agreement concluded between Baghdad and Amman recently a wide debate among the Iraqi political circles, where parliamentarians accused the federal government that it will supply Jordan with crude oil from Kirkuk free of charge.
The Iraqi Oil Ministry denied on Thursday to supply 10,000 barrels of crude oil to Jordan and free, strongly criticizing statements made by politicians on this matter.
The ministry said in a statement that "relations with Jordan have witnessed a great development recently, which led to the signing of a memorandum of understanding for economic cooperation in the interests of the two countries. Iraq and Jordan on 15/8/2006 at the request of brothers in Jordan, which provides for the supply of (10) thousands of barrels per day of crude oil Kirkuk at the station "Chinese - Baiji" in the province of Salah al-Din and a price equation linked to the price of Brent crude less Transportation costs and different specifications, Ziat to blue refinery. "
The ministry said in its statement that "the agreements concluded between countries and as is customary of the federal government is represented by the Council of Ministers and not the authority of the Minister of Oil, who is not entitled to grant oil to this or that party as some claim, and the Minister is also not authorized to conclude contracts and agreements And that the ministry is part of the federal government to implement the government program scheduled as far as the tasks and responsibilities in the oil and energy sector and in the interest of national interest.
