    The Ministry of Agriculture announced on Tuesday the launch of an afforestation campaign in the province of Arbil as part of a project to plant two million trees throughout the country, funded by the Central Bank of Iraq to curb the phenomenon of desertification. 
    "Arbil is the third province in which the staff of his ministry started planting the bare land after Baghdad and Diwaniyah province, and his ministry decided to include all the provinces of the country," said Hamid Nayef, a media spokesman for the ministry. 
    Al-Nayef added that "the work of afforestation in Al-Anbar and Sulaymaniyah provinces will be completed after its completion in Erbil." This campaign will contribute significantly to increasing the percentage of green areas and reducing the effects of desertification, which became a global phenomenon due to water scarcity and high temperatures.
