Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the series of visits expected for senior Iraqi and Russian officials, where the President of the Republic and Parliament Barham Saleh and Mohammed Halbusi, two official visits to the Russian capital Moscow.
"Iraqi Ambassador to Russia Haidar Mansour Al-Athari met at the Russian Foreign Ministry building, the Russian President's envoy to the Middle East and North Africa and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov to discuss bilateral relations and the latest political developments on the regional and international scene," the ministry said in a statement. The statement added that "the meeting discussed the implementation of the exchange of official visits between Iraqi and Russian officials, including the visit of President Barham Salih and the visit of Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohammed Halbusi to Russia, as well as the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to Iraq in the near future," noting that "These mutual visits reflect the desire of both countries to develop bilateral relations."
In turn, Mikhail Bogdanov stressed "the continued support of the Russian government for Iraq and the readiness of Russian companies to contribute to the reconstruction of cities destroyed by terrorist acts."
And on the participation of Iraq in the work of the (Astana) as an observer, Bogdanov explained that "the Iraqi participation will have a major role in supporting efforts to bring peace in Syria," noting that "Russia is keen to have an effective role to Iraq to bring the views of the parties involved in Conference".
At the end of the meeting, Al-Athari briefed the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister on the embassy preparations to hold a ceremony marking 75 years of Iraqi-Russian relations, noting that "this long history of cooperation reflects the strength of the bilateral relations between the two countries."
