A Muslim Confronted Ben Carson Over His Views On Islam. His Response Earned Him a Standing Ovation

Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson was confronted by a Muslim at a town hall in Staten Island Monday night over his suggestion someone of his faith should not be president of the United States.
Hesham El-Meligy, chairman of the Staten Island Libertarian Party, used the question and answer period to challenge the candidate on his view.
“It says, ‘No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States,’” El-Meligy read, holding a pocket copy of the U.S. Constitution and citing Article 6, Section 3.
Carson’s response brought the crowd of around 2,000 to their feet.
“That’s very easy to reconcile actually,” Carson replied. “If you go back to what I said, I said I would not want a Muslim who accepted all the precepts of Islam including Sharia.”
El-Meligy was likely referring to a remark Carson made on CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union.”Sep 27, 2015.
“You have to reject the tenets of Islam,” Carson said at the time. “Yes, you have to.”
