BAGHDAD,— Iraqi powerful Shiite cleric Sadr Moqtada al-Sadr has threatened British forces waiting to be deployed to Iraq as trainers and advisors to local forces fighting against the Islamic State (ISIS).
Sadr issued a statement Monday that said British troops who take part in any operation whether as advisors or trainers would be considered as “invaders.”
British Defense Minister Michael Fallon said last week the U.K. would expand the number of British soldiers in the fight against ISIS militants to 500.

Sadr issued a July 17 call for his supporters to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] U.S. military forces deployed to Iraq for the fight against ISIS, threatening to disrupt focus on the war against militants.
Sadr’s instructions for his followers to target U.S. troops was in response to a question from a follower on how they should respond to the U.S. military’s deployment, which is expected to happen within weeks to aid Iraqi forces liberating Mosul from ISIS.
He said in a brief, “they are a target for us,” in reference to the new U.S. troops coming to Iraq.
U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter announced 560 more troops will be sent to Iraq to assist Iraqi forces in operations to liberate Mosul.
