The Predators have declared the month of February “For the Love of Hockey” Month with events, ticket offers and giveaways, highlighted by the NHL Centennial Fan Arena. Other features of the month include…

    - The “Pred-al Tavern” – A Nashville staple with a golden twist. The Pred-al Tavern made its debut on Saturday for the Red Wings game and will also make four more appearances during the month.

    - G.O.A.L. – The Get Out and Learn program continues with a new session beginning today. This is a free on-ice youth hockey series to expose younger kids to the game and get them on the ice to experience hockey first-hand..

    - SECHC Tournament – The top eight teams from the Southeastern Colligiate Hockey Conference will have their championship tournament at Ford Ice Center 2/10-12. The top eight teams from the ten team conference will participate. You can get weekend passes to the tourney at Ford Ice Center

    - The NHL Centennial Fan Arena is 2/11 & 12 and will be set up in Hall of Fame Park right next to the Nissan outdoor rink.

    - Gnash is doing his annual Valentine’s Day deliveries, contact him via email if you are interested… gnash (@) nashvillepredators (dot) com.

    - Valentine’s Day will see Smashville try to set a record for On Ice Vow Renewals at the Smashville Outdoor Rink. If you want to renew your wedding vows on the rink, go to the Preds website to sign up.

Other events throughout the month will include regular Friday Giveaways, the annual 5k and the second Hockey Fights Cancer Night of the season. The Predators are back in action tomorrow night against the Vancouver Canucks.

    Random Notes

    - Where We Stand – After yesterday’s play, the Nashville Predators have 58 points in 52 games played and continue to stand 3rd in the Central Division. Nashville trails the division leading Minnesota Wild by 15 points (-1 GIH) and 2nd place Chicago by 11 points with two games in hand. Nashville maintained its lead over 4th place St. Louis due to the Blues losing. The Preds have a three point lead over St. Louis. Los Angeles is in the first wild card slot, Calgary is in the second.

    - The Predators have practice at Bridgestone Arena today… Vernon Fiddler is expected to be with the team.

    - Derek Grant was waived by the Predators on Saturday night, no word yet on if he has cleared… I can’t find any indication that he has been claimed yet.

    - More bad news for the St. Louis Blues as winger Robbi Fabri is done for the season due to an ACL injury.

    - The signals being sent that the NHL’s salary cap will remain flat will complicate the trade deadline. Of course, Larry Brooks from the New York Post takes his typical cheak shots at the so-called “small market” teams.

    - Bring back the Whale! Loving Hartford’s pitch for the Islanders! Now, that being said… I would have no problem moving a team out of the northeast… too many within a small geographical area.

    - With ASU pulling out of their development agreement with the Arizona Coyotes, the future of this fanchice is again up in the air… for heavens sake, I can’t imagine being a Coyotes fan in that environment.

    - Three games in the NHL tonight, all times CST – 6pm – BUF @ NJD, TOR @ NYI, STL @ PHI.
