The Nashville Predators complete a three game home stand tonight against the Vancouver Canucks with more than a couple of story lines to follow…

You can go home again - The re-acquisition of Vern Fiddler is not a move that stands the hockey world on its’ ear, but it is a solid move to add some veteran depth. Fiddler has always been a solid role player with leadership skills and grit… something you can never get enough of with a young team . Fiddler was a popular player during his first stint with the Preds and is obviously very happy to be back.

Fiddler should fit in quite nicely on the bottom six, giving another gritty forward to work with Austin Watson and Cody McLeod. Liberties will not be taken with the top six, and if they are, the team now has several solid role players to answer the call.

Which way is up? - Vancouver comes into tonight’s game trying to figure out where they are headed. The Canucks have been playing .500 hockey over the last five, going 2-2-1 after a nice little 4-1 run in the previous five. The Canucks are coming into town off a 1-0 loss to Detroit (sound familiar?) their third loss in their last three games. They need reverse course quickly before they fall too far behind the pack… as things stand heading into play tonight, the Canucks are five points out of the Wild Card with four teams to leap frog.

An apple a day - For the only the second time since halfway through the first game of the season… the blueline is fully healthy. Only Mattias Ekholm has played in every game this season from the defense corps. The adversity faced and the bonding that comes from it has certainly helped this group and it should continue to solidify as they get more time together as a fully formed unit. Staying healthy now becomes key…

Plenty of storylines indeed... game time is 7pm at Bridgestone Arena, coverage begins with radio pregame at 6pm, TV pregame starts at 6:30 and the puck drops at 7:07pm. Radio coverage on 102.5 the Game and the Predators Radio Network and TV coverage on Fox Sports Tennessee. Limited tickets remain for tonight’s contest.

    Random Notes

    - Where We Stand – After yesterday’s play, the Nashville Predators have 58 points in 52 games played and continue to stand 3rd in the Central Division. Nashville trails the division leading Minnesota Wild by 15 points (-1 GIH) and 2nd place Chicago by 11 points with two games in hand. Nashville had its lead over 4th place St. Louis sliced to one point due to the Blues win in Philadelphia last night. The Preds have a game in hand over St. Louis. Los Angeles is in the first wild card slot, St. Louis moved into the second wild card slot.

    - The Predators have placed Harry Zolnierczyk on IR and recalled Pontus Aberg from Milwaukee.

    - Derek Grant was re-claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Sabres yesterday, returning to the team that originally waived him a few weeks back.

    - Mike Ribeiro plays his first game for the Milwaukee Admirals tonight and by all accounts, was active and involved in his first practice with the team.

    - Speaking of the Ad’s, congrats to Fredrick Gaudreau on being named AHL Player of the Week. The young forward had his second career AHL hat trick posting a total of five points in two games, four goals and one assist.

    - Another one bites the dust… Claude Julien has been fired as head coach of the Boston Bruins. Vegas is getting some very good options for their first head guy…

    - Eleven games in the NHL tonight, all times CST – 6pm – SJS @ BUF, ANA @ NYR, CGY @ PIT, CAR @ WSH. 6:30pm – DAL @ TOR, STL @ OTT, CBJ @ DET, LAK @ TBL. 7pm – VAN @ NSH, MIN @ WPG. 8pm - MTL @ COL.
