Trump: We will not repeat the withdrawal from Afghanistan as we did with Iraq

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump said early on Tuesday he would not make a hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan.

"The consequences of a quick exit are predictable and unacceptable," Trump said. "The hasty withdrawal will create a vacuum that will be filled by terrorists, including the well-known Islamic state on the media level and the Taliban, immediately."

In a speech to troops at Fort Mayer in Arlington, Virginia, Trump said the US withdrawal from Afghanistan would be a repeat of the withdrawal from Iraq in 2011, and as a result "our hard-earned gains have gone into the hands of our enemies ... The United States can not repeat This error ".

Trump explained that he initially intended to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan, but he realized after taking office that "decisions are very different when you sit behind your office in the Oval Office."
