    Baghdad / Sky Press: "N"

Australian Immigration Minister Peter Dutton has asked asylum seekers detained in Manos to file their application or leave after the deadline for closing their detention center has come to an end, stressing that his country's authorities will deal swiftly with those who do not comply with asylum laws.

"Asylum seekers and migrants detained at the Manos detention center must present their papers for asylum in Papua New Guinea or to leave and return to the mother country," Dutton said in a press statement.

"The deadline for closing the center and the asylum seekers who arrived in Australia by boat several years ago has been resolved to leave the country," Dutton said.

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton, granted a deadline for thousands who arrived by sea between late 2012 and early 2014 ended, on Sunday, inviting them to "accept or leave" the offer by the Australian government.

More than 6,000 people have applied for protection since the May deadline, while some 600 asylum seekers did not submit papers five days before the deadline.

The Immigration Department was unable to find out how many people did not submit their claims until the end of the week.

The Australian Immigration Department indicated that it would deal quickly with those who did not comply with the laws, considering that this was an indication that the person no longer intended to seek protection in Australia.

Australia is following a tough policy to stop illegal immigration to the country, which provides for intercepting and returning smuggled migrants to their places of origin, as well as arresting those arriving at special detention centers on remote islands in the central Pacific.
