WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump does not believe the time is right to negotiate with North Korea over Pyongyang's provocations, a senior US official said on Sunday.
The official, who made the remarks when asked to clarify the traumas he wrote on North Korea, said any open diplomatic channels between Washington and Pyongyang aim to secure the return of Americans held in North Korea, according to Reuters.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Saturday that the United States was in direct contact with North Korea over its missile and nuclear programs, but Pyongyang showed no interest in dialogue.
"Rix Tillerson told our wonderful foreign minister that he was wasting his time trying to negotiate with the little rocket man," Trump wrote on Twitter, referring to Trump's cynical description of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
