    A top Taliban commander was killed on Sunday in clashes with Afghan security forces in the northern state of Gozan. 

    "Commander Mullah Shafiq was killed after he and his gunmen attacked a security post on the Shurghan Mazar Expressway," state television spokesman Mohammad Reza Ja'afouri was quoted as saying by state television. 

    "Mullah Shafiq was involved in insurgent activities against the security forces in the state of Fayezabad and was accused of trying to destabilize the state." The Taliban did not comment on the incident.
