Russia warns America of "bloodbath" in Ukraine

Russia on Saturday condemned the United States' decision to supply Ukraine with "advanced defensive capabilities," saying it could lead to a "new bloodbath" in the east of the country.
"The United States is clearly pushing (the Ukrainian authorities) towards a new bloodbath," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in a statement.
"US weapons can lead to new victims in our neighbor," Ryabkov was quoted as saying.
Russian officials described Washington's decision to supply Kiev with "dangerous" weapons, because it would encourage Kiev to use force in the east of the country.
The Russian Information Agency, quoting Deputy Foreign Minister Gregory Karasin, said that any arms supplies now would encourage those who support the conflict in Ukraine to use the "scenario of force".
Franz Klintsvich, a member of the Security Committee of the Council of the Russian Federation, the upper house of parliament, said that Kiev would consider arms supplies in support of its actions, the Interfax news agency reported.
"The Americans are actually pushing Ukrainian troops directly into war," Klintsvich said.
The Russian news agency TASS reported on Saturday that the Russian Foreign Ministry had indicated that the US decision was once again undermining the Minsk agreements.
The State Department said on Friday that the United States would provide Ukraine with "sophisticated defense capabilities" while Kiev was fighting separatists, backed by Russia on the eastern side of the country.
Moscow and Kiev had a row after Russia annexed Ukraine's Crimea in 2014 because of a war in eastern Ukraine between separatists loyal to Russia and Ukrainian government forces, which has killed more than 10,000 people in three years.
Kiev accuses Moscow of sending troops and heavy weapons to the east of the country, which Russia denies.
The Minsk agreements are aimed at ending the fighting in Ukraine and signed by Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France in the capital of Belarus in early 2015.
