MOSCOW (Reuters) - Moscow on Friday condemned new US sanctions against a Chinese body that bought Russian weapons, warning Washington of what it called "playing with fire."
"It would be good to remember the existence of a principle such as global stability that they irresponsibly destabilize," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in a statement. "It is stupid to play with fire because it can become dangerous."
On Thursday, Washington announced sanctions against a Chinese military body that bought fighter jets and surface-to-air missiles from Moscow.
This is the first time that the administration of President Donald Trump has targeted a country other than Russia under sanctions under a law originally designed to punish Moscow for its annexation of Crimea as well as other activities.
At the same time, Washington has listed 33 Russian military and intelligence officials and entities on its blacklist.
Ryabkov said there was "national pleasure in taking anti-Russian measures" in the United States, saying it was the 60th round of sanctions against Russia since 2011.
"Each round of new sanctions shows the complete absence of the desired results from our enemies that US blacklists are multiplying, it's strange."
After stressing that "no one will be able to dictate conditions on Russia," he called "the operators of the sanctions machine in Washington to see at least superficially on Russian history to stop the move in vain."
