The Iraqi National Investment Commission revealed six projects in the railway sector at a total cost of over $ 29.6 billion, as part of the investment opportunities map to be presented at the donor conference to support the reconstruction of Iraq.
Iraq also offered projects to build the underground in Baghdad, with investments estimated at 8 billion dollars (7.12 trillion dinars).
The first and largest project is the construction of a new line (Baghdad-Basra), the sub-line (Kut-Umm Qasr), length of 910 km, and the cost of investment 13.73 billion dollars (16.28 trillion dinars).
It added that the second project to rehabilitate and develop the Baghdad-Diwaniya-Samawah-Basrah line, with a length of 610 kilometers, at an estimated cost of 793 million dollars (940.5 billion dinars).
While the third investment project for the construction of the new line (Musib - Karbala - Najaf - Samawah), a length of 228 kilometers, and an estimated cost 3.15 billion dollars (3.74 trillion dinars).
It noted that the fourth project to build the 35-kilometer-long Basra-Shalamjah pipeline, estimated at $ 635 million (KD 753.11 billion), is expected to serve visitors from Iran to religious holy sites.
While the fifth investment project for the railway (Mosul - Duhok - Zakho), extending to Turkey in the north, along the length of 160 kilometers, and the estimated cost of $ 2.61 billion (3.1 trillion dinars).
And the sixth opportunity within the investments of the Iraqi transport sector, allocated by the Commission to the railway line (Baghdad Baquba Kirkuk Erbil Mosul), and the sub-line (Baquba Khanaqin Manziriyah and even Iran), a total length of 700 kilometers, and an estimated cost 8.65 billion dollars (10.26 trillion dinars).
The investment plan to be presented at the launch of the conference in Kuwait on February 12, includes 157 investment opportunities, including 41 investments in the category of "major projects".
Iraq is in the process of reconstruction and rehabilitation of the country's battered infrastructure against the backdrop of war; recently signed loan agreements to repair electricity networks, with companies in English, Japanese and Swedish.
Several governments have announced their offer of grants and loans for the reconstruction of Iraq, led by France, the Czech Republic, and Korea
Earlier this year, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi launched a $ 100 billion national reconstruction document.
The reconstruction plan comes in two stages, which will be implemented within 10 years, with the first scheduled to be implemented between 2018 and 2022, while the second will be implemented between 2022 and 202
Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Khalid al-Jarallah said earlier that the donor conference for the reconstruction of Iraq, which will be hosted by his country, will see a new trend to involve the private sector in the reconstruction process.
