    The GSMA World Telecommunications Organization in the United Arab Emirates discussed the laws of telecommunications and information technology and the development of the prospects of its future sector in Iraq with the participation of all concerned bodies including the Media and Communications Authority. 

    "The parliamentary committees, the Ministry of Communications and the concerned authorities participated in the research workshop called by the GSMA International Organization, which was held in the United Arab Emirates for the period from 29/1 to 1/2/2018 and in the presence of the World Bank, " the media and communications authority said in a statement. The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a number of international experts and representatives of regional regulatory bodies, the South Asia and Middle East and North Africa Telecommunications Council (SAMENA) and various international telecommunications operators. "

    The statement added that "the workshop was devoted to discussing the laws governing the work of independent bodies concerned with the regulation of the telecommunications sector, and discussed the prospects for the development of communications sector in Iraq," noting that "the importance of this subject and its implications for improving the growth of the telecommunications sector in Iraq and to provide future visions and improve its resources and infrastructure, Through this participation, all legislative and executive bodies and the various key players of the telecommunications sector in Iraq are present in order to learn about the tremendous and continuous developments in the world of communications and information technology. The draft laws are still trading between To the government and the relevant committees in the House of Representatives for the previous years. "

    The Commission considered that "these developments affect the legislation and its compatibility with the requirements of the development of technology for this sector and as the Commission and the Ministry as part of their responsibility to provide all the requirements and tools to access international best practices to contribute in providing the relevant committees in the House of Representatives experiences of States and to enable them to benefit from enriching discussions And observations in order to come out with legislation that keeps pace with developments and the advancement of service reality in a manner that suits the requirements of consumers with all their work and names. 

    The Commission revealed that, "since the close of the year to coordinate with international experts and a number of regulatory bodies to prepare a workshop specialized in this area and recently held a workshop in the presence of the above mentioned bodies in addition to a number of independent experts, including shares in the preparation of legislative orders and some of which are still in force Era of the dissolved Coalition Authority. "

    The GSMA statement added that "GSMA International has provided an integrated vision for organizing the sector in Iraq, discussing the prospects of legislating laws to guarantee its development, developing its infrastructure and mechanisms to develop investment promotion in the sector." 

    He added that "after extensive discussions of the overall aspects of the subject, the participants reached a number of outputs that will be effective in drafting laws that affect the statement of the concept of the general policy of communications and administrative disciplines and clarify the regulatory powers related to the telecommunications horizon in Iraq." 

    The statement pointed out that the most prominent of these outputs that "there is an urgent need to legislate the law of communications and informatics sets the general framework of powers for both policy makers and the regulator to ensure the success of the work of an independent body and impartial to regulate the telecommunications sector,

    "The discussions stressed that the future prospects for the development of the telecommunications sector in Iraq requires the liberalization of its sector through the liberalization of fixed-line services and infrastructure and services of the international portal, which will contribute to the success of investment projects in other sectors such as oil, economy, tourism, health, education and media."
