[ltr]US Defense Secretary James Matisse said that Washington, while considering a military strike on Syria, was looking to avoid any uncontrolled escalation.[/ltr]
[ltr]"I am confident that there is a chemical attack and we are looking for the real evidence," Matisse said at a hearing in the House Armed Services Committee on Thursday, stressing that he was one of his primary concerns regarding the possible US strike, avoiding an "out of control" in the country.[/ltr]
[ltr]Matisse accused Russia and Syria of blocking the sending of observers to the alleged chemical attack site in Damascus.[/ltr]
[ltr]He noted that US President Donald Trump had not made a decision on a military strike against Syria, saying: "If we decide to do military action in response to the chemical attack, we will inform Congress, as it was the previous time more than a year."[/ltr]
