    (with photos) ISTANBUL, Nov 22 (KUNA) -- The 29th Session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) has concluded here with calls for increasing involvement of the committee's members in global commerce and economy.

    COMCEC final communique, issued after the conference conclusion late on Thursday, called for cooperation amongst exchange markets and central banks of member states.

    It also asked the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and other organizations to offer assistance to the member states so that they could join the World Trade Organization (WTO) Several issues were discussed during the Summit including the implementation of the OIC ten-year program of action, the annual report on trade between OIC member states, the reports on OIC trade fairs and exhibitions amongst other issues.

    The agenda of the session included issues connected to world economic developments, the expansion of Intra-OIC trade, the improvement of transport and communications, and the developing of a sustainable and competitive tourism sector.

    The summit discussed ways to increase productivity of agricultural sector, sustain food security, eradicate poverty, deepen financial cooperation, enhance the role of private sector in economic cooperation, and increase FDI flows into the OIC member countries.

    Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Sheikh Salem Abdulaziz Al-Sabah represented Kuwait at the summit.

    COMCEC was founded in 1984 with the aim of developing and creating coordination in economic and trade cooperation between member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). (end) ta.gta KUNA 221308 Nov 13NNNN
