Political analyst Ali Al-Habib confirmed that every president who ascends to power in Iran has as his primary goal the satisfaction of the Supreme Leader, while he indicated that there will be no change in the Iraqi situation and its relations with the Iranian side in the coming days.
Al-Habib said, “Expectations indicate that there will be signs of reform when the new Iranian president, Massoud Pezeshkian, is inaugurated.” He pointed out that, “In reality, there is complete control by the Supreme Leader, Mr. Ali Khamenei, as he is considered the first to control, even if there is a possibility or attempt by the reformist president to change the reality of the situation in the country, considering that he is a reformist party. Also, one of the priorities of his main program is to open relations with surrounding countries and also with the Western side, and he began good relations with these countries instead of hostile relations throughout the past years.”
Al-Habib explained that “every president who ascends to power in Iran has as his primary goal the satisfaction of the Supreme Leader and the achievement of the goals of the Iranian revolution.” He noted that “it is difficult to determine the issue of the existence of clear reforms in the Iranian situation. Yes, there will be attempts, but they will not have a major impact, considering that the Supreme Leader is the one who possesses the high powers that are higher than those of the President of the Republic and are completely controlling.” He indicated that “there are many details in the state that follow the Supreme Leader more than they follow the President of the Republic.”
He added, “The position of President of the Republic in Iran is merely an honorary and formal position rather than an effective and influential one, given that all elements of the state and government are approved by the Supreme Leader and then appointed, so I believe that the situation will remain as it was in previous years, and Iran’s policy will not change very significantly.”
The political analyst continued, "Iraq is trying to balance the relationship between the parties, as the Iranian side's policy in the country is known, and also through its existing arms in the country," stressing that "there will be no major change in the policy between the two parties." He warned that "there is a problem that falls on the Iraqi side, which is balancing the Iraqi relationship with the Iranian side and the Iraqi relationship with the American side, especially in light of the very big conflict between them, starting with the regional war and the attempt to integrate Iraq, and turning it into a backyard for conflicts to settle scores between the two sides."
Iranians voted on Friday in the second round of a presidential election in which reformist Pezeshkian faced off against conservative former nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili. The Interior Ministry said Pezeshkian won about 55 percent of the vote, while turnout in the second round of Iran's presidential election was 49.8 percent.
Election officials have so far counted more than 30 million votes, with Pezeshkian receiving more than 17 million and Jalili more than 13 million, according to results released by the Interior Ministry.
The elections were held in haste to choose a successor to Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash on May 19.
