The Ministry of Health revealed, on Saturday, the addition of more than 4,000 beds to its capacity as part of the government program to improve the health situation, while it confirmed work on opening a center this year specializing in intensive care, the first of its kind in Iraq.
The ministry's spokesman, Saif Al-Badr, said in a statement reported by the official news agency, and reviewed by "Al-Eqtisad News", that "the level of services in government health institutions is constantly evolving, and there are technologies used in some surgeries that enable patients to undergo the operation in the morning and leave the same day, including laparoscopic surgery."
He added, "On the other hand, hospital openings and rehabilitation operations have allowed the addition of 4,100 beds to the Ministry of Health's capacity, and these are large numbers. We currently have 250 projects that could add more than 10,000 beds."
He explained, "Among those projects scheduled to open this year is a very important project in the Medical City for intensive care, and it will be a qualitative addition; as it is the first center of its kind in Iraq that includes an integrated hospital specializing only in intensive care."
