North Korea's leader makes bold and unprecedented decision

South Korean leader Kim Jong-un said during a meeting with South Korean leader Mon Jong on Friday that he would close the nuclear testing site in Pongiri in May this year.
"The DPRK will shut down the nuclear facility in May to ensure transparency for the international community and we intend to invite experts and journalists to the DPRK," Yong Yongchang was quoted as saying by Kim Jong-un.
"We will not repeat the sad history of the Korean War. We can not allow the bloodletting of the Korean nation to be repeated. I will not use force," he said, adding that the North Korean leader promised during his meeting with his South counterpart not to repeat future bloodshed as well as the use of force.
The South Korean presidential representative said that Kim Jong-un had stressed that there would be no need for nuclear weapons if an agreement was reached with the United States to formally end the war and build confidence between the two countries.
North Korean leaders Kim Yong-un and South Moon Jinn, following a summit meeting at the border truce village Panmunjom on Friday, adopted a declaration bearing the name of the village, pledging their intention to pursue full nuclear disarmament on the Korean Peninsula, improve bilateral relations and seek Common prosperity and reunification of the two countries on a peaceful basis.
The declaration ends the state of hostility between the two sides of the Korean Peninsula, which has existed for 65 years.
The summit comes a few weeks before a planned meeting between the North Korean leader and the US president, which revealed the secret meeting of Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo with North Korea's leader in Pyongyang.
On April 21, North Korea announced that it would stop testing nuclear weapons and launching intercontinental ballistic missiles. Pyongyang no longer needed nuclear tests or tests to launch intercontinental ballistic missiles because it had completed nuclear armament. .
