Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country had bombed important meeting places of the PKK (PKK) during recent operations in the Kandil Mountains, northern Iraq.
"Very important meetings of these people were bombed during the recent operations in the Qandil mountains," Erdogan said in a televised interview.
"The bombing is certain, but the results are not yet clear," he said.
Asked whether there were any prominent names in the Kandil communities, Erdogan said, "There is a high probability of their presence."
Turkish Foreign Minister Mouloud Shawishoglu said on June 8 that "the Turkish military operations against the PKK in northern Iraq have reached the Kandil mountain area," the stronghold of the organization which Ankara classifies as a terrorist group.
Oglu said his country was determined to end the party's presence in Mount Qandil.
For his part, announced the Turkish Defense Minister Noureddine Ganikli, on June 12, that the army will remain permanently in the Kurdistan region.
"Our operations inside the region are different this time," Turkish media quoted Janicelli as saying. "For the first time, the army is setting up military bases."
He added that "the operations will continue until the Kandil mountains are cleared of terrorists," stressing that "the army will remain permanently in the Kurdistan region."
