Washington announces its position on a country witnessing major protests

The United States ambassador to the Organization of American States, Carlos Trujillo, denied that his country is currently planning to invade Nicaragua, which is witnessing a wave of anti-government protests.
"The United States will do everything in its power to bring Nicaragua back to the path of democracy, and we look at all options, but this option is not currently on the table," Trujillo said in a press statement.
"The government of Nicaragua must return to dialogue with the opposition after a recent breakdown," he said, adding that "Washington is considering the possibility of imposing new sanctions on officials and industrial sectors in Nicaragua, having earlier withdrawn US visas from 21 officials suspected Their involvement in human rights violations and corruption. "
Protests erupted in Nicaragua last April because of the government's intention to reform the social security system and soon turned into bloody clashes between security forces and supporters of President Daniel Ortega on the one hand and protesters demanding the president's departure on the other.
According to human rights organizations, more than 350 people were killed and 2,100 wounded.
