    US President Donald Trump on Sunday warned his Iranian counterpart against the repercussions of a "few testaments in history" in response to a statement by Hassan Rowhani at a time when the United States is cracking down on the Islamic Republic. 
    In a direct letter to Rohani, Trump wrote in a tweets on Twitter: "Never threaten the United States again or face repercussions that few have experienced in history."

    The tirade came in response to a spiritual warning Sunday to Trump from "playing with fire" because the conflict with Iran would be "the mother of battles."

    "We are no longer a state that can be silent about your distorted statements about violence and murder, be careful," Trump said.

    The remarks are reminiscent of the war of words between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un before they are eased and the two leaders hold a historic summit on June 12.

    Since the US-North Korean rapprochement, Trump has made Iran its biggest target. His comments came on Sunday after Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo said in a speech to the Iranian community in California that the United States was not afraid of sanctions against senior leaders of the Iranian regime.

    In May, Trump announced the withdrawal of the United States from the nuclear deal signed in 2015 between Tehran, Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia, which lifted sanctions in return for curbing Iran's nuclear program.

    The Europeans are sticking to the deal, although their companies operating in or with Iran could face US sanctions.

    After the United States withdrew from the deal, Pompeo revealed a tougher stance to Washington when he said the United States could lift its sanctions if Iran ended its ballistic missile program and put an end to its interference in regional conflicts from Yemen to Syria.

    "You can not incite the Iranian people to their security and interests," Rowhani said Sunday in a televised address before Pompey's speech.
