    BAGHDAD - Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari on Thursday welcomed the Security Council's decision to extend the UN mission.
    "Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari received Jan Kubic, the representative of the UN Secretary-General in Iraq," the foreign ministry statement said, noting that "the meeting discussed the overall security and political developments in the Iraqi arena and the UN efforts to support the stability of Iraq."
    "Iraq welcomes Iraq's unanimous decision to extend UNAMI's mandate until May 31, 2019," Jaafari said, praising "the positive role that Jan Kubic has played in supporting Iraq."
    "The continuation of the partnership with UNAMI contributes to the achievement of the objectives set for the mission by the Security Council," he said, expressing "Iraq's full support for the work of the international investigation mission in documenting the crimes of the terrorist gangs formed by the Security Council resolution."
    He stressed "the need to take the consent of the Iraqi government in the event of any desire to adopt strategies, new plans related to the mandate of UNAMI, powers, or any programs, or plans may be outside the mandate of the special UNAMI," calling "(UNAMI) to urge the International Organization for Migration The return of the remaining funds in the Organization's mandate since the 2004 foreign elections, amounting to $ 57 million.
