Basra MP warned al-Moussawi on Tuesday that the US consulate would remain in the province, pointing out that its survival poses a threat to the security and sovereignty of the country.
"The US consulate in Basra remains a threat to the security and sovereignty of the country, so we are working hard to get the American forces out," Moussawi said in a statement. "All that happened in Basra is behind the US consul and some civil society organizations, .
She added that "the fourth parliamentary session will see the move to remove US troops from Iraq, and legalize the number of employees working in the embassy and consulate," noting that "the survival of the US consulate in Basra is a threat to the province being directly responsible for burning offices of the popular mobilization."
