A legal expert explains the extent of the Security Council's response to the Zionist entity's complaint against Iraq

Information/Baghdad...
Legal expert Ali Jaber Al-Tamimi explained, on Wednesday, the extent to which the UN Security Council responded to the Zionist entity’s complaint against Iraq, pointing to the right of peoples to resist the occupation, support the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples, and defend themselves.
Al-Tamimi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, "The declaration of war is different from resistance and the right of peoples to armed confrontation, as the declaration of war is according to the Iraqi constitution in Article 61, paragraph nine, upon a joint request from the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic and the approval of the absolute majority of Parliament."
He added, "Peoples have a sacred right to resistance, as they were given the international right to defend their country according to the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1947 and its special annex of 1977, which allows peoples to resist and defend their sanctities. Likewise, Article 51 of the UN Charter allows peoples, individually and collectively, to defend themselves."
He explained that "the Iraqi factions have the legitimacy to defend the holy land of Palestine, Gaza and Lebanon, and these resistance fighters are not mercenaries, but rather international law allows them to defend their countries, and there are precedents for such actions that the United Nations did not object to, as happened when American forces entered Iraq and occupied its lands."
He pointed out that "the UN Security Council, from 1960 to 1969, issued approximately 10 resolutions called the legitimacy of resistance, which allowed peoples the right to resist, and therefore the Iraqi resistance has the right to defend Palestine and Lebanon, because the Zionist entity has attacked Jurf al-Sakhr and other sites and threatened religious references, and international law has allowed the resistance to defend its peoples."
He stressed that "the complaint submitted by the Zionist entity to the Security Council against Iraq is rejected, because the Iraqi government did not declare war against this entity, but rather the people are the ones who strike the entity and resist its actions." End 25N
